Altay Bayindir - Best Saves in 2023

Altay Bayındır, born on April 14, 1998, in Osmangazi, Turkey, is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Standing at an imposing 1.98 meters (6 ft 6 in), he is known for his strong physical presence and shot-stopping abilities. His football journey began at a young age, starting in the Bursaspor youth academy at nine. He continued his youth development at Arabayatağıspor and Bursa Yolspor before joining Ankaragücü's youth ranks in 2013, where he would eventually make his senior debut.

Bayındır made his Süper Lig debut for Ankaragücü in November 2018. His performances for Ankaragücü caught the eye of bigger clubs, leading to a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in July 2019. This transfer marked a significant step in his career, as he quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Istanbul-based club.

During his time at Fenerbahçe from 2019 to 2023, Bayındır became a key player and even served as one of the team captains in the 2020-2021 season. He made 116 league appearances for Fenerbahçe, showcasing his consistency and leadership. His tenure saw him make numerous crucial saves, including penalty stops, and he contributed to the team's strong performances in the Süper Lig and European competitions.

In September 2023, Altay Bayındır made a high-profile move to Premier League club Manchester United for a reported fee of £4.3 million. This transfer made him the first Turkish player to sign for the iconic English club. His arrival at Old Trafford was met with anticipation, as he was expected to provide competition for the starting goalkeeper position.

However, since joining Manchester United, Bayındır's playing time has been extremely limited. He has primarily served as the second-choice goalkeeper behind André Onana. In the 2023-2024 season, he only made one appearance for the club across all competitions, which was in the FA Cup. In the current 2024-2025 season, he has made four Premier League appearances, one FA Cup appearance, and three EFL Cup appearances, alongside two Europa League appearances, totaling 10 appearances.

Bayındır's current situation at Manchester United remains uncertain. While he has provided backup for Onana, reports suggest that the club is evaluating its goalkeeping situation. With veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton having recently extended his contract as the third-choice, there is speculation that either Onana or Bayındır could leave the club in the upcoming transfer window in search of more regular first-team football.

Despite his limited club appearances, Bayındır has continued to be a part of the Turkish national team. He has represented Turkey at various youth levels before making his senior international debut in May 2021. He has accumulated 10 caps for the senior national team, participating in World Cup qualifiers, European qualifiers, and international friendlies.

Altay Bayındır is known for his shot-stopping ability, particularly his quick reflexes and commanding presence in the box. While his time at Manchester United has seen a reduction in his match minutes, his past performances at Fenerbahçe and for the Turkish national team highlight his potential and quality as a goalkeeper. His future at Manchester United will likely depend on the club's broader transfer strategy for the goalkeeping department.
