Rogers Mato Kassim, born on October 10, 2003, is a Ugandan professional footballer who has quickly emerged as a versatile and impactful player. Primarily operating as a midfielder or centre-forward, he is also adept at playing as a right or left winger. His career has seen him progress through youth systems in Uganda to playing in top-flight leagues in Europe.
Mato's youth career included stints with Lweza FC and Maroons FC in Uganda's junior league. In 2018, he joined the youth setup of Proline FC, a club in the FUFA Big League. He was promoted to Proline's senior squad for the 2019–20 season. Despite the team's relegation in a season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, he became a key player in the subsequent season, helping them reach the promotion playoffs.
In September 2021, Mato made a significant move to KCCA FC, a prominent club in the Uganda Premier League, signing a four-year contract. He spent two years with KCCA FC, from 2021 to 2023, further developing his skills and gaining crucial senior team experience in Ugandan football.
His talent then led him to Europe. In July 2023, he joined Şanlıurfaspor in the Turkish First League, where he made 5 appearances. After a brief spell in Turkey, Mato moved to North Macedonia in February 2024, joining Brera Strumica in the country's First Football League. He had a productive time there, playing 33 matches and scoring 4 goals.
In January 2025, Mato made another move within North Macedonia, joining record champions Vardar. As of late June 2025, he continues to play for Vardar, where he has already made 6 appearances and scored 2 goals in the 2024-2025 season. This consistent movement to higher-level European leagues reflects his ongoing development and the recognition of his abilities.
On the international stage, Rogers Mato is an active member of the Uganda national football team, the Uganda Cranes. He debuted for the senior national team on January 12, 2022. As of June 9, 2025, he has amassed 28 caps for Uganda and scored 5 goals. His international contributions include scoring in the 2022 African Nations Championship qualification, 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification, 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification, and 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
