Rafael Leao 2024 - Magical Skills, Goals and Assists
Rafael Alexandre da Conceição Leão, known simply as Rafael Leão, is a dynamic Portuguese professional footballer who has become a prominent figure as a left winger for Serie A club AC Milan and the Portugal national team. Born on June 10, 1999, in Almada, Portugal, Leão is widely recognized for his explosive speed, exceptional dribbling skills, and creative flair that makes him a constant threat to opposing defenses.
Leão's footballing journey began in the youth academy of Sporting CP, a renowned talent factory in Portugal, which he joined at the age of nine. He quickly progressed through the ranks, showcasing immense potential and making his senior debut for Sporting CP in 2017. During his time with Sporting, he secured his first club trophy, winning the Taça da Liga in the 2017-2018 season.
In 2018, Leão moved to French club Lille, where he spent a promising season. Despite his young age, he adapted quickly to Ligue 1, contributing significantly with 8 goals in 26 competitive games, primarily utilized as a striker. His impactful performances in France caught the eye of several top European clubs, leading to his next big move.
AC Milan acquired Leão in 2019, recognizing his immense potential. While his first two seasons at the Italian club showed flashes of brilliance interspersed with inconsistency, everything changed in the 2021-2022 season. Under coach Stefano Pioli, Leão blossomed into a true superstar, playing a crucial role in leading AC Milan to their first Serie A title in 11 years with 11 goals and 10 assists.
His standout performances in the 2021-2022 season earned him the prestigious Serie A MVP (Most Valuable Player) award, solidifying his status as one of the most exciting talents in European football. He also established himself as one of the best dribblers in Serie A and among the top in Europe.
Leão's playing style is characterized by his ability to stretch and disrupt defenses with his movements both on and off the ball. Standing at 1.88 meters (6 ft 2 in), he combines his tall and lean physique with a remarkable burst of speed. He excels in one-on-one situations, often driving from deep and changing pace to bypass defenders, and is also capable of creating chances and providing assists due to his vision.
Beyond his club success, Leão has become an important player for the Portugal national team. He made his senior international debut in 2021 and has represented his country in major tournaments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he scored his first international goal against Ghana, and the 2024 Euros. He also won the UEFA Nations League with Portugal in 2025.
Currently, Rafael Leão continues to be a pivotal player for AC Milan. He signed a contract extension in 2023, committing his future to the Rossoneri until June 2028. His blend of pace, skill, and goal-scoring ability makes him a nightmare for defenders and a key asset for both club and country.
