Noni Madueke, born Chukwunonso Azuka Tristan Madueke on March 10, 2002, is an English professional footballer widely recognized for his dynamic play as a winger. He currently features for Premier League club Chelsea and also represents the England national team, having progressed through various youth levels.
Madueke's footballing journey began in London, joining Crystal Palace's academy at the age of nine. After three years, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur, where his talent quickly shone, captaining their Under-16 side and making his Under-18 debut by the age of 15. This early exposure at top academies laid the foundation for his professional career.
A pivotal moment in his development came in June 2018 when Madueke made the bold decision to move to the Netherlands, signing a three-year contract with PSV Eindhoven. He quickly integrated into their youth setup and, by August 2019, made his senior debut for Jong PSV. His impact led to first-team appearances for PSV in January 2020, and the 2020-21 season became his breakthrough, with seven Eredivisie goals.
During his time at PSV, Madueke made a total of 80 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 14 assists. He played a significant role in their success, including scoring two goals in a 4-0 Johan Cruyff Shield win against Ajax in August 2021 and winning the KNVB Cup in the 2021-22 season. His performances garnered attention from top European clubs.
In January 2023, Madueke returned to England, signing with Premier League club Chelsea on a seven-and-a-half-year contract for an estimated transfer fee of £28.5 million. He scored his first Chelsea goal in May 2023. In the 2024-25 season, he scored his first senior hat-trick in a 6-2 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024. He also contributed to Chelsea's success in the UEFA Conference League, which they won in 2024-25, and was a runner-up in the EFL Cup in 2023-24.
Madueke's playing style is characterized by his directness, power, and versatility as an attacker. He primarily operates as a right winger, where he can cut in on his powerful left foot. He is known for his speed, strong dribbling ability, and willingness to shoot, making him a consistent threat in the final third. His former manager at PSV, Roger Schmidt, noted his ability to read situations and get into the right positions.
On the international stage, Madueke has represented England at various youth levels, including the Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s, and Under-21s. He was part of the England U21 squad that won the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, featuring in all six of their games as they secured the title without conceding a goal.
His consistent performances and development at club level led to his first call-up to the England senior squad in August 2024 for UEFA Nations League matches. He made his senior debut for England on September 10, 2024, against Finland at Wembley Stadium, coming on as a substitute and assisting a goal, further solidifying his status as a bright prospect for both club and country.
