Justin Hubner, born on September 14, 2003, in Den Bosch, Netherlands, is a professional footballer primarily known as a centre-back. Standing at 1.87m, he is a left-footed defender who has represented both the Netherlands and Indonesia at youth international levels before committing to the Indonesian senior national team. His journey has seen him develop through various youth academies, ultimately reaching the professional stage.
Hubner's youth career included stints at VV TGG, Willem II, Brabant United, and FC Den Bosch. In February 2020, he joined the academy of English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. He spent several years at Wolves, primarily featuring for their U18 and U21 teams. He was highly regarded in their youth setup, even captaining the U21s in some matches and being named their U-21 Player of the Season for 2024-25.
Despite his consistent performances at the youth level, Hubner did not make a senior appearance for Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was named to the bench for a Premier League match against Arsenal in December 2023 but did not get on the field. In early 2024, he had a brief loan spell with Japanese J1 League club Cerezo Osaka, making 6 league appearances and 2 J. League Cup appearances before his loan was terminated prematurely in July 2024, and he returned to Wolves.
A significant development in Hubner's career was his decision to represent Indonesia internationally. He had previously played for the Netherlands U19 and U20 teams. However, in October 2022, he was called up to the Indonesia U20 squad, and on December 6, 2023, he officially obtained Indonesian citizenship, making him eligible to represent the senior national team. His father has Indonesian descent with family in Makassar.
Hubner made his senior debut for the Indonesia national team on January 2, 2024, in a friendly match against Libya. He has since become a regular for the Garuda squad, playing a crucial role in their campaigns, including the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, where Indonesia reached the knockout stage for the first time. As of March 20, 2025, he has made 26 appearances for the senior team, scoring 1 goal, which came on October 10, 2024, in a World Cup Qualifying match against Bahrain. He has also played for the Indonesia U23 team, notably scoring a brace against South Korea in the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup.
As of July 11, 2025, Justin Hubner is currently without a club. His contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers expired on June 30, 2025, and he was officially released by the club on June 6, 2025. This means he is a free agent and seeking a new team for the upcoming season.
On the field, Hubner is known for his defensive prowess. He is a strong and physically imposing centre-back who excels in aerial duels and one-on-one situations. His long strides allow him to cover ground quickly, making effective recovery runs. He also demonstrates composure on the ball and is capable of progressive passing, initiating attacks from the back. While primarily a defender, he also offers a goal threat from set-pieces due to his aerial ability.
His playing style is marked by a good understanding of the game and leadership qualities, having captained the Wolves U21 team. While there are areas for development, such as occasional lapses in marking, his overall defensive solidity and on-ball capabilities make him a promising young talent with a bright future in professional football.
