Hakim Kiwanuka is a Ugandan professional footballer, born on September 11, 2000, who primarily operates as a left winger. His career has seen him develop through Ugandan club football before making a notable move to a prominent Rwandan club. Kiwanuka's skill set, particularly his dynamism and attacking flair, has made him a valuable asset to the teams he has represented.
He began his senior club career with Proline FC, where he played from at least the 2019/2020 season. During his time there, he made 20 appearances and scored 2 goals in the Premier League for the 2019/2020 season. This period allowed him to gain vital experience in the top flight of Ugandan football and showcase his potential.
Kiwanuka later joined Sports Club Villa Jogoo (SC Villa), a prominent club in the Uganda Premier League, around September 2023. At SC Villa, he continued to be a significant contributor. In the 2023/2024 season, he played 26 Premier League matches and scored 3 goals. He maintained his impact in the first half of the 2024/2025 season with SC Villa, making 15 appearances and netting 5 goals.
In January 2025, Hakim Kiwanuka made a significant move in his career, transferring to Rwandan Premier League giants APR FC. This transfer came after his contract with SC Villa expired in December 2024. He was officially unveiled by APR FC alongside fellow Ugandan player Denis Omedi, signifying a new chapter in his professional journey. He signed a two-year deal with APR FC, set to expire in January 2027.
Beyond his club commitments, Kiwanuka has also represented the Uganda National Football Team, known as the Uganda Cranes. He made his debut for the national team on June 4, 2022. As of late December 2024, he had made 5 international caps and scored 1 goal for Uganda. His first international goal came against Burundi on December 29, 2024.
His involvement with the Uganda Cranes has included participation in crucial tournaments. He was part of the squad that secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Furthermore, he was part of Uganda's CHAN 2024 squad, a tournament specifically for players competing in their domestic leagues, although his transfer to APR FC meant he would miss out on the actual tournament.
Kiwanuka's style of play, often deployed as a left winger, emphasizes his ability to create chances and contribute to the attack. His consistency in scoring and assisting for his clubs, coupled with his national team appearances, highlights his offensive capabilities and overall influence on the game.
As of late June 2025, Kiwanuka is with APR FC, having joined them in January of the current year. His move to the Rwandan league represents a step up in his career, providing him with new challenges and opportunities to further develop his game at a highly competitive level within African football.
