Adebayor later explained his celebration as a response to perceived abuse from Arsenal fans, including what he described as racist chants targeting his parents. He maintained that he had no regrets about his actions, viewing it as a deliberate act of defiance. The incident resulted in him receiving a suspended two-match ban and a £25,000 fine from the Football Association.
