Denis Omedi - All Goals for Kitara FC
Denis Omedi, born on June 13, 1994, is a Ugandan professional footballer who has garnered significant attention for his goal-scoring abilities and dynamic play as a striker. His journey in professional football began at Booma FC, a club based in the Masindi district of Uganda, where he honed his skills before making a significant move to Kitara FC.
During his time with Kitara FC in the 2023-2024 season, Omedi truly showcased his prolific scoring prowess. He netted an impressive 15 goals in the Uganda Premier League, a testament to his sharp instincts in front of goal and his ability to consistently find the back of the net. His exceptional performances did not go unnoticed, earning him the Player of the Month award for February 2024 at the Real Stars Awards.
Omedi's impact extends beyond club football to the international stage, where he represents the Uganda National Football Team, famously known as the Uganda Cranes. He has made a notable contribution to the national team, having made ten appearances and scoring three goals. Crucially, he played a vital role in helping Uganda secure a spot in the 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament, even scoring a crucial goal against South Africa during the qualifiers.
One of the most defining moments of Omedi's career came with his extraordinary rabona strike against KCCA in the FUFA Super 8 tournament. This breathtaking goal earned him a nomination for the prestigious FIFA Puskas Award in 2024, placing him among the world's elite goal scorers. While he ultimately finished third in the voting, his nomination alongside global talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Yassine Benzia solidified his place on the international football map.
His rabona goal also received a nomination for the Goal of the Year category at the CAF Awards 2024, making it one of only two goals to be nominated for both the CAF and Puskas awards in that year. These nominations significantly boosted his profile and increased his transfer prospects, drawing interest from various clubs across different continents.
In early 2025, Omedi made a significant career move, signing a two-year deal with Rwanda Premier League club APR FC. This transfer, completed in January 2025, saw him join alongside fellow Ugandan talent Hakim Kiwanuka, further highlighting his growing reputation in African football. His move to APR FC marks a new chapter in his career, offering him new challenges and opportunities to develop his game.
Despite the move, his former club, Kitara FC, initially distanced themselves from transfer rumors, but eventually confirmed his departure after he successfully underwent medical tests. The club president even acknowledged that Omedi's absence would be felt but expressed confidence in the team's ability to continue competing successfully.
Denis Omedi's journey from Ugandan local leagues to international recognition and a move to a prominent Rwandan club underscores his dedication and talent. With his goal-scoring ability, impactful contributions to the national team, and a Puskas Award nomination to his name, he continues to be a player to watch in African football, with potential for further achievements in his career.
