Yunus Sentamu, born on August 13, 1994, is a Ugandan professional footballer renowned for his abilities as a centre-forward. His career has taken him across various leagues in Africa and Europe, establishing him as a key offensive player for both his clubs and the Uganda national team. His journey reflects a path of consistent goal-scoring and significant contributions to his teams' successes.
Sentamu's club career began with Vipers SC in Uganda, where he first made a name for himself. He scored six goals in 13 games during his initial stint before venturing abroad. This early success laid the foundation for his international experiences, which included spells with Congolese club AS Vita, where he reached the CAF Champions League final in 2014, and Tunisian side CS Sfaxien.
His European journey saw him play for Ilves in Finland in 2016 and KF Tirana in Albania from 2017 to 2019. While with Tirana, he demonstrated his prolific nature, scoring 12 goals in 19 league appearances in the 2017-18 season, helping them clinch the Albanian First Division title. He also notably became the first Tirana player to reach double-figure goals in that season.
Sentamu made a significant return to Vipers SC in January 2021, signing a two-year contract. Since rejoining the Ugandan club, he has been a pivotal player, contributing significantly to their domestic success. He has played over 100 matches and scored more than 40 goals across various competitions for Vipers in his second spell, including being the top goal scorer in the Uganda Premier League in the 2020-2021 season with 16 goals.
His strong performances for Vipers have seen him win multiple Uganda Premier League titles and Uganda Cups with the club. He was also a crucial figure in Vipers' historic achievement of reaching the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time, showcasing his impact on both domestic and continental fronts.
On the international stage, Sentamu has been a long-serving member of the Uganda National Football Team, the Uganda Cranes, since his debut in 2014. He has made over 30 appearances and scored five goals for his country. His electrifying displays in the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa, where he scored a brace against Burkina Faso, brought him to wider attention.
Despite some periods away from the national team, Sentamu has frequently returned to the fold, particularly after a change in coaching staff. His continued strong form at the club level has consistently earned him call-ups, most recently being included in the provisional squad for the 2024 CHAN championship in East Africa, following a stellar performance in the 2024-2025 season with Vipers.
