Raul Asencio 2025 - Amazing Defensive Skills

Raúl Asencio del Rosario, born on February 13, 2003, in Las Palmas, Spain, is a professional footballer who primarily plays as a center-back. He is a product of Real Madrid's renowned La Fábrica academy and currently features for their senior team in La Liga. Asencio's career has seen a rapid ascent from youth football to the highest levels of club competition.

Asencio's early football development began at local team Veteranos del Pilar before he joined UD Las Palmas. At the age of thirteen, he moved to the youth academy of Real Madrid in 2017. His progression through Real Madrid's youth ranks demonstrated his potential, leading him to play for RSC Internacional in 2022-2023 and Real Madrid Castilla (Real Madrid B) from 2023-2024.

The 2024-2025 season marked a significant breakthrough for Asencio. Due to injuries to key defenders like David Alaba and Éder Militão, he was brought up to the first team. He made his La Liga debut for Real Madrid on November 9, 2024, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 victory against Osasuna. Two weeks later, on November 24, 2024, he made his first La Liga start in a 3-0 win against Leganés.

Throughout the 2024-2025 season, Asencio cemented himself as a regular starter for Real Madrid, making 23 appearances in La Liga. He also featured prominently in other competitions, including 6 appearances in the Copa del Rey, 10 in the UEFA Champions League, 2 in the Supercopa de España, 1 in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, and 2 in the FIFA Club World Cup. He provided one assist in La Liga during this period.

In March 2025, Asencio received his first call-up to the Spain national team for the 2024–25 UEFA Nations League quarter-final matches against the Netherlands. This call-up underscored his growing stature in Spanish football and highlighted his potential to become a key player for his national team in the future.

More recently, Asencio participated in the FIFA Club World Cup in June 2025. His performance in the tournament garnered attention, particularly in the matches against Al-Hilal and Pachuca. He conceded a penalty against Al-Hilal and received a red card early in the match against Pachuca. Despite these individual setbacks, his team managed to win the latter match.

Following these matches, it was noted that Asencio would be undergoing a process of change in his style for the future, with instructions from new Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso. He also took to social media to apologize for his recent performances, receiving support from teammates, including Federico Valverde.

Asencio's playing style is characterized by his composure on the ball, aerial ability, and overall physical conditioning. He is described as "decisive with the ball." At 1.84m tall and weighing 79 kg, he possesses the physical attributes well-suited for a center-back. Despite recent challenges, at 22 years old, he is still considered a promising talent with significant time to grow and fulfill his potential at Real Madrid.
