Match Analysis
Manchester United kicked off their preseason with a goalless draw against Leeds in Stockholm, a match that offered little excitement for fans hoping for early goals. The game's start was even delayed by ten minutes due to heavy traffic, setting a subdued tone for the encounter.
The Strawberry Arena saw minimal action throughout the ninety minutes. In fact, one of the loudest cheers from the crowd was reserved not for a moment of football brilliance, but for the appearance of Leeds minority owner Will Ferrell on the big screen, highlighting the lack of on-field highlights.
New Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha made his debut, but the Brazilian forward found it difficult to get into the game. He failed to register a single shot before being substituted at halftime, replaced by Mason Mount.
Mount was part of a complete overhaul at the break, as manager Ruben Amorim made 11 changes to ensure every player in the squad got valuable minutes in the opening preseason fixture. This extensive rotation aimed to give everyone an early taste of competitive action.
Leeds also made significant changes at halftime, introducing eight new players. Among them was debutant Sean Longstaff, who had only recently joined the club on Friday, making his first appearance since his transfer from Newcastle United.
Manchester United's preseason schedule now takes them across the Atlantic. Their next stop is the United States, where they are set to face West Ham at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 26, continuing their preparations for the new season.
Following their match against West Ham, United will travel to Chicago to play Bournemouth on July 30, before concluding their U.S. tour against Everton in Atlanta on August 3. They will then return home to begin their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against Arsenal.
Leeds, meanwhile, will host Villarreal at Elland Road on August 2. Their final preseason match will see them travel to Dublin to play Milan on August 9, just ahead of their own Premier League season opener against Everton.
